Murchison Safari Overview

This four-day safari is for travelers who want Uganda's classic northern wilderness without rushing the experience. The journey begins gently in Entebbe, then turns north through Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary before reaching Murchison Falls National Park, where the Nile narrows, the savannah opens, and the days settle into game drives, river time, and quiet lodge evenings. Planning Essentials

Murchison Safari Planning

This route starts and ends around Entebbe or Kampala, uses private road transfers, and is best priced after checking real lodge space for your dates.

Price guide This safari package starts from $1190 per person. The final quote depends on season, traveler count, lodge tier, room sharing, and whether you add an Entebbe night after the safari.
Start and finish Starts at Entebbe International Airport, Entebbe hotel, or Kampala hotel. Ends in Kampala, Entebbe, or at the airport depending on your onward timing.
Pickup and drop-off timing Day 1 pickup is arranged around your confirmed flight or hotel time. Day 4 drop-off is usually late afternoon or evening in Kampala/Entebbe, so same-day international flights should be late evening only.
Best travel months June to September and December to February are usually drier and easier for game drives. March to May and October to November can be greener, quieter, and sometimes better value.
Drive times Day 2 is usually 5-6 hours from Entebbe or Kampala to Murchison with stops. Day 4 is usually 6-7 hours including Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary and drop-off timing.
Activity timing Game drives are strongest early and late. The Nile boat cruise and top-of-the-falls visit are planned around park operations, road conditions, and lodge position.
Flight advice A late evening departure can work on Day 4, but a final Entebbe night is safer if your international flight leaves earlier or you prefer a softer ending.

Transfer to Murchison Falls National Park and Top of the Falls

After breakfast, your private guide leads the northbound drive toward Murchison Falls National Park. The road day is part of the safari, with comfort stops, countryside views, and time for your guide to set the story of Uganda's northern wilderness.

A guided hike to the top of Murchison Falls, a rewarding 1.4 kilometre walk through one of Uganda's most dramatic landscapes. The trail leads you to the powerful point where the Victoria Nile forces itself through a narrow 7 metre gorge before plunging 43 metres below.

Standing above the falls, you feel the force of the river, the thunder of the water, the spray in the air, and the sheer energy of nature unfolding in front of you. It is a moment that photographs rarely capture.

If daylight and road conditions allow, the final stretch toward the lodge becomes a first wildlife window, with your guide watching the evening movement across the park instead of rushing the arrival.

Morning game drive and boat cruise

Your day begins early, when the savannah is cooler and wildlife is most active. With your experienced safari guide interpreting tracks, recent sightings, weather patterns, and the changing light, you explore patiently in search of Murchison Falls' iconic wildlife.

Expect opportunities to encounter elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, lions, leopards, antelopes, and the park's remarkable birdlife. Every wildlife safari drive is different, shaped by the movements of the animals and the rhythm of the wilderness.

In the afternoon, experience the park from a completely different perspective on a boat safari along the Victoria Nile. Cruise towards the base of Murchison Falls while watching hippos, crocodiles, elephants, and countless waterbirds along the riverbanks.

If conditions and timing allow, your guide may suggest an evening game drive when the golden light creates another opportunity for wildlife viewing before returning to your lodge.

Ziwa Rhino Tracking and Departure

After breakfast, leave Murchison Falls behind and begin your journey south. A stop at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary adds an important conservation chapter to your safari, where you walk alongside trained rangers to track Uganda's rhinos in their natural habitat.

This experience completes your Big Five journey while offering a deeper understanding of Uganda's wildlife restoration efforts.

Later, continue to Kampala, Entebbe, or the airport depending on your onward travel arrangements. If your flight departure is close, we provide honest advice before confirming the itinerary to ensure a comfortable and stress-free journey.

Safari FAQ

Murchison Safari FAQ

A few practical answers before you send dates, choose a lodge tier, or decide whether this short safari should become part of a longer Uganda route.

Is four days enough for Murchison Falls? Yes, if the route is planned realistically. You get an arrival night, two nights connected to Murchison Falls, and Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary on the return.
Can this safari start without an Entebbe arrival night? Yes, if you are already in Kampala or Entebbe. If you land late, the arrival night keeps the northbound drive safer and more comfortable.
Are rhinos guaranteed at Ziwa? Ziwa is Uganda's main rhino-tracking sanctuary and sightings are generally strong, but it remains a guided wildlife experience affected by conditions on the day.
Can we upgrade or change lodges? Yes. We can quote budget-conscious, mid-range, luxury, or mixed lodge styles once we know your travel dates, group size, and room preferences.
How does payment work? We first confirm route fit, lodge availability, room setup, and the final quote. Payment is requested only after you approve the proposal and receive a written invoice link.
Are park fees, Ziwa, and the boat cruise included? Yes, the listed park entry fees, Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary tracking, scheduled Nile boat cruise, private vehicle, guide, accommodation, and listed meals are included unless your final proposal states otherwise.
Can we extend this safari to gorillas, chimpanzees, or Queen Elizabeth? Yes. Murchison can stay as a short northern chapter, or we can continue the journey toward Kibale chimpanzees, Queen Elizabeth wildlife, Bwindi gorillas, or a softer Entebbe ending.
Can children or slower-paced travelers join? Yes, if the road rhythm suits the group. We adjust departure times, comfort stops, room setup, and lodge choices so the safari feels private and realistic rather than rushed.

How We Handle The Details

Private Safari Planning

Four days can feel generous when the route is handled well. We confirm lodge availability before the final quote, keep the transfer timing realistic, and shape the safari around your preferred comfort level instead of pushing one fixed version of the trip.
