7-Day Uganda Gorilla & Wildlife Safari

Day 1: Welcome to Uganda

Arrive at Entebbe International Airport, meet your guide and transfer to your guesthouse without turning the first evening into a program.

If you land early, we can keep the introduction light with the lakeshore, a short Entebbe outing or a quiet meal before the longer safari days begin.

Day 2: Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park

After an early breakfast, leave Entebbe in your private safari vehicle and travel west toward Queen Elizabeth National Park. A stop near the Equator creates a natural pause for photographs, coffee and a short stretch before the road continues through small trading towns, banana country and the greener hills of western Uganda.

Transfer guide: Allow approximately 7-8 hours from Entebbe, including the Equator stop and sensible comfort breaks. Road conditions, traffic and the position of your confirmed lodge can extend the day.

As the route approaches the western Rift Valley, the landscape opens toward crater lakes, escarpments and distant views of the Rwenzori Mountains. Your driver-guide uses the journey to introduce the region's wildlife habitats and to explain how the following day's game drive and Kazinga Channel boat cruise fit together.

Arrive at the lodge with time to check in, have dinner and settle into the atmosphere of Queen Elizabeth National Park. If daylight remains, a gentle wildlife orientation may be possible near the lodge, but the priority is a comfortable arrival rather than squeezing a rushed activity into an already full transfer day.

Day 3: Game Drives and Kazinga Boat Cruise

Begin early on the Kasenyi Plains, when the light is low, the air is cooler and Queen Elizabeth National Park is beginning to stir. Your guide works patiently through Uganda kob breeding grounds, elephant paths, buffalo country and known predator areas rather than racing between sightings.

Morning game drives are unhurried and responsive to what the park reveals. You may encounter elephants crossing the tracks, buffaloes feeding across the grassland, warthogs, waterbucks and Uganda kob, while lions or leopards remain rewarding possibilities rather than guaranteed sightings. Your guide interprets tracks, alarm calls and animal behaviour throughout the drive.

Return to the lodge for breakfast or an early lunch and time to rest during the warmer part of the day. This pause keeps the itinerary comfortable before the afternoon boat cruise on the Kazinga Channel, the natural waterway linking Lake George and Lake Edward.

In the afternoon, board the scheduled Kazinga Channel boat cruise. Hippos, crocodiles, elephants, buffaloes and waterbirds may gather along the banks, giving you a lower, water-level perspective of the park. The cruise is particularly rewarding for photography because wildlife often approaches the shoreline to drink, cool down or feed.

After the cruise, return to the lodge at an easy pace. A short evening game drive can be considered when timing, park conditions and your energy allow, keeping the day flexible without making it feel overfilled.

Day 4: Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

After breakfast, leave the savannah and climb toward Bwindi through village roads, terraced hills and cooler forest country. Your confirmed gorilla permit sector guides the lodge choice, so the evening stays quiet and practical before the next morning's briefing.

If timing allows, a local community experience can add context around daily life, food traditions, craft or music near the forest without making the day feel staged.

The defining day

Day 5: Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi

Wake early for breakfast while the forest is still cool, then take the short transfer to your confirmed Bwindi trailhead. Your guide carries the permit details and helps with registration before the Uganda Wildlife Authority ranger briefing, where the group is introduced to forest etiquette, safety and the gorilla family assigned for the day.

The trek begins on foot with rangers and trackers reading fresh signs through the forest. Depending on where the gorillas nested and moved, the walk may last several hours and can cross steep, muddy or uneven ground. The pace is managed by the ranger team, with pauses for water, photographs and the changing forest around you.

The encounter is often quieter than travelers expect: feeding, grooming, watchful adults and young gorillas moving through the vegetation. Your ranger explains the family relationships and guides where the group may stand, allowing the experience to remain intimate without disturbing the gorillas.

After returning from the forest, continue to your sector-matched lodge for lunch, a hot shower and an intentionally quiet afternoon. A gentle community visit can be considered if time and energy allow; a Lake Bunyonyi transfer is only added when it genuinely supports the confirmed permit sector and the next day's journey.

Day 6: Transfer to Lake Mburo

After breakfast, begin the Bwindi to Lake Mburo transfer. The road descends from the forested highlands through terraced farms, small trading centres and the cattle country of western Uganda, gradually replacing steep green slopes with open grassland and acacia trees.

Lake Mburo National Park is compact, but its mix of savannah, woodland, rocky outcrops, lakes and wetlands gives this part of the safari a distinct character. Zebras and impalas are closely associated with the park, while elands, buffaloes, waterbucks, hippos and varied birdlife may also be encountered.

Transfer guide: Allow approximately 5-6 hours from Bwindi, depending on your confirmed gorilla sector, road conditions, comfort stops and the location of your Lake Mburo lodge.

After check-in, settle into the quieter rhythm of Lake Mburo. If daylight and arrival time permit, your guide can arrange a short evening game drive or a boat safari; the final activity is selected around gate times, availability and the pace of your private Uganda safari. This flexible afternoon keeps the journey comfortable while still leaving room for a rewarding first look at the park.

Day 7: Lake Mburo & Departure

Begin the final morning with a ranger-guided walking safari in Lake Mburo National Park. Moving quietly on foot creates a closer connection with the landscape as your ranger interprets animal tracks, plants, bird calls and signs that are easily missed from a vehicle.

The route is chosen according to wildlife movement, weather and park conditions. There may be opportunities to look for zebras, impalas, warthogs and other plains wildlife from a safe distance, but every walk remains a natural experience and sightings cannot be guaranteed. Breakfast is arranged before or after the activity according to the confirmed start time.

Return to the lodge to freshen up, then begin the Lake Mburo to Entebbe transfer. An Equator stop can be included for photographs, refreshments or a short craft-market visit when your flight schedule leaves enough time. Your driver-guide will plan the departure around traffic and the recommended airport check-in window rather than rushing the final road journey.

Transfer guide: Allow approximately 4-5 hours to Entebbe, with timing affected by traffic, stops and your lodge location. This departure plan works best with an evening flight; for an early flight, an additional night in Entebbe can be arranged. The safari then ends with airport or hotel drop-off.
