3 Days Gorilla Trekking Safari

A focused Bwindi gorilla trek for travelers who want the forest encounter, the road into Uganda's southwest, and a simple private plan that does not feel rushed.

Design My Private Safari

Short Gorilla Safari in Uganda

This 3-day safari keeps the promise clear: travel into Bwindi country, trek with Uganda Wildlife Authority rangers, spend your hour with a mountain gorilla family, and return with enough flexibility around flight timing and road conditions.

Safari Overview

This is the shortest private Bwindi plan we would treat seriously: one full transfer into the southwest, one protected gorilla trekking day, and one full return day. It works best when the gorilla permit, lodge sector, and onward flight timing are checked before the quote is confirmed.

Best valueFor travelers whose main reason for visiting Uganda is one gorilla trek, not a full wildlife circuit.
Route disciplineNo filler park stops. The itinerary protects the forest morning, the lodge location, and realistic road hours.
Where to upgradeSpend the extra budget on the right Bwindi lodge sector, porter support, and an Entebbe buffer night if your flight timing needs it.
DayExperience
1Scenic road transfer from Entebbe or Kampala to Bwindi
2Mountain gorilla trekking and optional afternoon activities
3Return transfer to Kampala, Entebbe, hotel, or airport

FocusRainforest trekking and one hour with a gorilla family.

OvernightBwindi Impenetrable National Park area.

Accommodation tier: Same Bwindi-area lodge or similar, keeping you close to the briefing point for the trekking sector assigned on your permit.

After an early breakfast, head to the park briefing point where rangers explain the rules, group allocation, and trekking conditions for the day. The walk can be short or demanding, but once the gorilla family is found, the pace changes: one quiet hour to watch feeding, grooming, play, and the small details that make the encounter stay with you.

  • Gorilla trekking adventure
  • Spend one hour observing the gorillas
  • Photography and unforgettable wildlife encounters
  • Return to lodge for relaxation

After the trek, return to the lodge to rest. If energy and timing allow, your guide can arrange a gentle community visit or short forest-edge walk without forcing the afternoon.

Note: Gorilla trekking is a physically demanding activity. Participants should be in good health and prepared for hiking in rugged terrain.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is three days enough for Bwindi gorilla trekking?Yes, if the trip is built around the trek and not overloaded. Day 1 is the long road to Bwindi, Day 2 is the permit day, and Day 3 is the return. If you want a softer pace, compare the 5-day gorilla and Lake Mburo option before adding an Entebbe or Bwindi night.
Is the gorilla permit included? The listed package includes one gorilla trekking permit per person unless your final written proposal says otherwise. Permit space must be checked for your exact travel date before confirmation.
Can I fly out on Day 3?Only if the flight timing is very comfortable. The Bwindi to Entebbe road day is long, so we usually recommend an Entebbe night before an international departure.
How hard is the trek?It depends on the assigned gorilla family, weather, mud, slope, and your walking pace. Some treks are moderate; others take several hours. A porter can make the day easier and supports local income.
Does the Bwindi sector matter?Yes. Buhoma, Ruhija, Rushaga, and Nkuringo do not behave like one single entrance. The Bwindi guide explains how permit sector affects lodge choice, road approach, and the morning briefing point.
How does payment work?We first check permit space, lodge fit, traveler details, and the final quote. Payment is requested only after you approve the written proposal or invoice; for a custom brief, use Design My Private Safari.
