Day 1

Arrival in Entebbe

Daily Snapshot Airport welcome, hotel check-in, safari briefing, and an easy first evening by Lake Victoria.

Arrive at Entebbe International Airport where your family will be welcomed by your guide and transferred to your hotel. This first day is intentionally light so everyone can recover from the journey, settle in, and ease into the safari at a comfortable pace.

If arrival time allows, there is time to enjoy the hotel grounds, an early dinner, and a short safari briefing so both children and adults know what to expect over the next two weeks.

Pace: Light arrival day Drive Time: About 20 to 30 minutes Accommodation Tier: Comfort or premium city hotel Overnight: Hotel No.5 / Protea Hotel Entebbe

After breakfast, begin the drive north toward Murchison Falls National Park. To keep the journey engaging for the family, the route includes a guided stop at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary where you can stretch your legs and track rhinos on foot with a ranger.

After lunch, continue to Murchison and arrive in time to settle into your lodge before dinner. The rest of the evening stays unhurried so everyone can rest well ahead of the first full wildlife day.

Day 3

Game Drive & Boat Safari

Daily Snapshot Morning game drive, long lunch break, and an afternoon Nile cruise to the base of the falls.

Start early for a family game drive when the park is coolest and wildlife is most active. This is one of the best chances to look for giraffes, elephants, buffalo, antelope, and, with luck, predators moving through the savannah.

After a proper midday break back at the lodge, head out again for a boat safari on the Nile. The river section adds variety for children and adults, with hippos, crocodiles, birds, and dramatic views toward the falls.

Pace: Moderate with midday rest Key Experiences: Game drive and Nile boat safari Accommodation Tier: Family comfort safari lodge Overnight: Murchison Falls lodge area

Day 4

Top of the Falls & Relaxation

Daily Snapshot Visit the top of the falls, then leave the afternoon open for rest, pool time, or lodge downtime.

Today is intentionally lighter after the previous full safari day. Visit the top of Murchison Falls to experience the power of the Nile squeezing through the narrow gorge, one of the most memorable viewpoints in Uganda.

The rest of the day stays flexible for the family. You can choose lodge time, reading, photography, or simply a slow afternoon before the next transfer deeper into western Uganda.

Transfer to Kibale Forest

Daily Snapshot Scenic transfer through western Uganda with tea plantations, crater landscapes, and a calm forest-lodge arrival.

Depart Murchison after breakfast and continue southwest toward Kibale Forest, the primate heart of Uganda. This is one of the longer road days, so the route is paced with comfort stops, lunch, and time to enjoy the changing landscapes.

By late afternoon, reach your forest lodge and settle in. The evening is kept relaxed to prepare the family for the next morning’s chimpanzee activity.

Pace: Long but scenic transfer day Drive Time: Around 6 to 7 hours with breaks Accommodation Tier: Forest comfort lodge Overnight: Kibale Forest area

Day 6

Chimpanzee Tracking

Daily Snapshot Chimp tracking in the morning, then a softer Bigodi wetland and community experience after lunch.

Head to Kibale for the morning chimpanzee briefing and forest walk. The chimp activity gives the family a totally different wildlife experience from the savannah parks, with birds, monkeys, and rainforest atmosphere adding to the excitement.

After lunch and some time to rest, continue with a gentler Bigodi Wetland visit. This slower second activity works well for families by balancing the morning forest trek with an easier-paced afternoon.

Leave Kibale and drive south toward Queen Elizabeth National Park, passing beautiful crater landscapes and rural communities along the way. This leg keeps the overland journey interesting without overloading the day.

Once at the lodge, the family has time to settle in, enjoy the views, and prepare for the next day’s full wildlife program.

Daily Snapshot Classic morning game drive, proper rest at midday, then a Kazinga cruise full of wildlife close-ups.

Begin with a morning game drive across Queen Elizabeth’s open plains, a strong chance to see elephants, buffalo, antelope, and possibly lions. The route works well for families because sightings are often rewarding without requiring a long trek.

After a break, enjoy the Kazinga Channel boat safari in the afternoon. This is one of the easiest and most enjoyable wildlife experiences for mixed-age groups thanks to the close riverbank views and relaxed pace.

Today links Queen Elizabeth with Bwindi in a rewarding way. Travel through the Ishasha sector, known for its tree-climbing lions, and enjoy a gentle wildlife search before continuing to the gorilla region.

By evening, reach the Bwindi area and settle into your lodge near the trekking sector. It is best to keep the evening calm so trekkers can rest well ahead of the next day.

Gorilla Trekking

Daily Snapshot Gorilla trekking for eligible travelers, paired with a slower alternative for non-trekkers or younger family members.

This is the signature day of the journey. Eligible family members join the park briefing and set out for gorilla trekking in Bwindi, one of Africa’s most moving wildlife encounters. Trek lengths vary, so the rest of the day is left open for recovery and quiet reflection.

Because gorilla trekking is limited to travelers aged 15 and above, younger children can enjoy a lighter parallel plan such as a guided community visit, nature walk near the lodge, or relaxed lodge time with pre-arranged support.

Pace: Variable for trekkers, light for non-trekkers Important Note: Gorilla permits are for ages 15+ Accommodation Tier: Premium or comfort gorilla lodge Overnight: Bwindi trekking sector

Leave Bwindi and head to Lake Bunyonyi, where the pace of the safari softens noticeably. This lake stop is especially valuable for families because it creates a restful break after the physical gorilla day.

Spend the afternoon enjoying the view, optional canoeing, and quiet time at the lodge. The mood here is intentionally slow and restorative.

Travel northeast to Lake Mburo National Park, Uganda’s smaller and more intimate savannah reserve. After the heavier gorilla and longer driving days earlier in the route, this section keeps the wildlife experience relaxed and accessible.

Arrive with time to settle in and enjoy the lodge setting. Depending on timing, there may be a gentle evening drive or simply a quiet sunset overlooking the park.

Walking Safari & Boat Ride

Daily Snapshot Gentle guided walking safari, peaceful boat ride, and a final full day that stays rewarding without feeling rushed.

Lake Mburo is one of the best parks in Uganda for a walking safari, making this day feel fresh and interactive for the family. A ranger-led walk offers a different perspective on the bush, focusing on tracks, birds, and close views of plains game.

Later, enjoy a boat ride and a final slow evening at the lodge. This softer final wildlife day helps the trip finish on a calm and satisfying note rather than an exhausting one.

After breakfast, begin the drive back toward Entebbe. The journey includes the classic Equator stop for photos, stretching, and souvenir shopping, giving the last road leg an easy and memorable rhythm.

Depending on flight timing, the day can remain flexible with lunch and comfort stops before your airport transfer. It is a smooth closing day designed to end the safari without unnecessary rush.
